What I like about my work

I love the variety of work and the challenges that each new task brings. I enjoy the interesting and unique issues that require not only a sound knowledge of the law, but the ability to think creatively. I also really enjoy meeting a diverse range of people and working within the litigation team environment.

What I’ve done in the past

Before studying law I worked at Disabled Citizens' Society (Otago) as a supervisor in the workshop, assisting and supervising people with disabilities undertake meaningful work and teaching living skills, such as cooking.  I am still very passionate about this cause and am now a Board member of Disabled Citizens.

My approach to working with my clients

I like to work collaboratively and to development the type of relationship where they can call with a query and receive a timely response, enabling them to return to their work. I believe a sense of humour is essential in this line of work!

Work highlights

I worked on larger scale litigation, as well and small debt collection, insurance and insolvency matters. Whether appearing in the District or High Court, or as junior Counsel in the Court of Appeal, I really enjoy the court atmosphere.  Some of my personal highlights however have come from settling difficult matters out of the court system.

What I enjoy at work

I enjoy contact with the clients and witnesses and the challenge to find the best outcome possible for my client.  No two days or clients or matters are the same!

What I enjoy outside of work

I love spending time with my children, husband, wider family and friends. I also love singing, theatre, music and good books. I also fit in work with Presbyterian Support, Disabled Citizens and St Marks Church, all of which I really enjoy. I just need more time…

What I enjoy about living in the South Island

I was born and bred in Dunedin. It's a fantastic place to live, raise a family and work.  As everything is so close, a trip to the beach can be spontaneous, as can a weekend away in Central Otago.
